The European Patent Office (EPO) recently unveiled its 2024 Patent Index, showing a remarkable milestone with approx. 200,000 European patent applications filed last year.
Switzerland’s innovation ecosystem continues to attract global attention. In 2024, Switzerland filed 9,966 patent applications—a 3.2% increase from 2023—marking its fourth straight year of growth. This puts the country third in Europe and seventh worldwide, with the highest number of patent filings per capita globally. In addition, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024, where Switzerland was named the leading country in innovation for the 14th year running. Sika Among Top 10 EPO Patent Applicants With Record Inventions in 2024
Sika continues to be a cornerstone of Swiss innovative prowess, consistently ranking among the top 10 Swiss applicants at the EPO. This enduring commitment to innovation underscores Sika's significant contribution to Switzerland's position on the global stage.
In 2024, Sika employees have reported a total of 264 new inventions (2023: 188) resulting in 125 first filings (2023: 108). By the end of 2024, Sika’s patent portfolio included 1,606 unique patent families with 5,772 single national patents.
Over the past six years, Sika has consistently ranked among the top 10 Swiss companies that filed patents with the EPO.
