SikaLatex®-98

Additive for cement-sand slurry and cement-based tile adhesive

SikaLatex®-98 is a flexible polymer additive designed for use with SikaCeram® cement-based tile adhesives, ideal for fixing ceramic tiles, marble and natural stones onto concrete, cement render, rendered brickwork surfaces or over existing tiles.

  • Increased shear bond strength – when added to SikaCeram® cement-based tile adhesives
  • Increased tile bedding strength – especially for heavy stones and large format tiles
  • Increased flexibility of the adhesive system to cater for movement
  • Improve bond strength of renders/screed to cementitious substrate – when used as a bonding slurry

Usage

  • When mixed with SikaCeram® cement-based tile adhesives, it can be used for fixing ceramic tiles, pavers, marble, slate and natural stones onto concrete, cement render, blockwork, rendered brickwork surfaces or over existing tiles, for wet area eg. bathroom, kitchens, swimming pools and spas.
  • When mixed with neat cement and sand, it can be used as a bonding slurry for cement-sand render over uneven concrete.

Application steps

SUBSTRATE QUALITY

  • All surfaces must be structurally sound, dry, clean and free from movement, oil, grease, wax, curing compound and any other loose or contaminating materials that may negatively effect the bonding strength.
  • Dusty concrete or masonry should be swept clean and/or vacuumed, and dampened with water.
  • Painted surface must be scabbled/abraded to expose the original substrate. Newly rendered/screeded surface must be thoroughly cleaned.
  • Old rendered/screeded surface must be thoroughly cleaned.

MIXING

As bonding slurry for rendering/screeding

  • Always shake SikaLatex®-98 container well prior to usage
  • Pour SikaLatex®-98 into a mixing container. Then, slowly add a mixture of cement and sand while mixing to a good brushable consistency.

As additive to SikaCeram® tile adhesive

  • Always shake SikaLatex®-98 container well prior to usage
  • Pour SikaLatex®-98 into a mixing container. Then, slowly add SikaCeram® cement-based tile adhesives while mixing.
  • Mix continuously in circular motion using a low-speed mechanical mixer until a lump-free, creamy consistency and uniform paste is achieved.
 
  • Allow the mix to stand for 5 minutes. Re-mix for 15–30 seconds before applying onto substrate.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all tools and application equipments with clean water immediately after use. Hardened or cured material can only be removed mechanically.
